Detailed Information

While ‘Envy’ is a specific cultivar of carrot, *Daucus carota subsp. sativus*, the carrot in general has its origins in a much broader region.

The likely geographical location or native region of the **ancestral wild carrot (Daucus carota)**, from which all cultivated carrots, including ‘Envy’, are derived, is:

* **Central Asia and the Middle East, particularly the region of modern-day Afghanistan, Iran, and surrounding areas.**

It is from this region that the wild carrot was domesticated and then spread to other parts of the world, eventually giving rise to the diverse cultivars we have today, including ‘Envy’. So, while ‘Envy’ is bred and grown in many places, its genetic roots are in Central Asia and the Middle East.
